And we wonder why the world hates us

SI.com - 2006 Winter Olympics - USOC intends to address bad-boy behavior - Saturday February 25, 2006 1:13PM

Congratulations Bode, you're a flop on the International Scale, and you can sit back with your smug grin and millions of dollars that you earn from endorsements each year as you slyly speak to reports (only when you feel like it) and state that not winning a medal isnt important, and that you dont care, and that it doesnt mean that youre not successful.

Chad and Shani, I dont know who's side I'm on, but congratulations to you both for being two spoiled bitches and bickering with each other on the ice, and making such a huge mockery of the word 'team', and on an international scale as well.

Meanwhile, we hear stories about people like Chip Knight who do their darndest just to make the team, and be proud enough to represent the good ol' US of A, but we only hear these stories after the media giants fill our olympic lives with more drama and turmoil, causing schleps like me to write a blog to feel better about myself, so i can tell my son 25 years from now "yep, i had a blog, and i complained about the 2006 olympics". And he'll say something like, "why did you complain? because americans go out there and show the world that they only care about themselves?" and i'll say something like "no, because all the world sees is that we only care for ourselves, but there are other people out there who arent on the headlines who are doing damn fine". And then he'll prolly tell me to put a dollar in the swear jar because i just said damn...

where was i? oh yeah, so we have Apolo Anton Ohno who did a fine job representing the US, but we heard very little. Mens curling took home the bronze... nope, not too much mentioned there. Bode strattled a gate and avoided the press... TOTAL LIVE COVERAGE! MUST SEE TV!

So congratulations to all of you who took the trip to Italy and did your best and didnt get proper noteriety for it. I hope you realize that if you want to be a household name these days, you need to admit that you dont give a crap about the olympics and want to go out boozing the night before a race, or that youre ticked off because the team isnt playing nice with one another... not because you sweat blood and tears training for an event, not necessarily to win it, just to say "i was there".

By the way... I really cannot stand Bode Miller, I promised myself that I would even blog about him... but i couldnt contain it anymore. Cheer's to you, people like Chip Knight, who are part of the team and go through painstaking efforts to do so. I was a part of a championship team once and had to battle the same type of demons... didnt have a starring role, but we made it through the season, and I can still look back and be proud of our accomplishments. I hope you truly mean what you say Bode, because otherwise... youre going to have to lie to yourself for a long long time...
